My only experience with Ambrose Bierce was in 10th grade, and my memory of him was that he was easier to read than both O Henry and Poe. I believe I read 2 of his stories, but remember them not at all. Sol Luckman seems to have experienced a greater depth in his governmental conditioning (public schools I would expect) than did I.

So when I picked up the Angel’s Dictionary, I immediately wanted to familiarize myself with his Devil’s Dictionary, and since it can be found for free on the net, a couple clicks later, I was set. What a hoot it is. And with his wit in mind I was better able face the wit of the Angel.

Remember also, that it was in the name of Satire that Charlie got his Hebdo shot off last year. One of the funniest aspects of the Charlie Hebdo False Flag attacks was the assertions that they had a “right” to practice satire as part of French Heritage. My thoughts ran more in the line of that you cannot blame Mantecore for causing Roy Horn’s stroke. (I might also note that Bierce also mocked Islam and the Koran in his day and in those pages without so much as a casual curse or thrown shoe from Mecca - that I and Wikipedia are aware of at least).

Satire is hard to master. And in this “enlightened” time (post 2012), much of society has lost its sense of humor for fear of melting the heart of the next snowflake down the road. I say, turn up the heat. It is much needed. And I believe The Angel's Dictionary does this with wit and charm worthy of notice.

Merriam Webster and Wikipedia stand aside. There is a new definition book in town worthy of helping us open our eyes and see the world of language.

The Angel Dictionary edition by Sol Luckman Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

What a goldmine of definition, the author has obviously got a serious case of inspired wit. It's one of those books, you can pick up at any time, have a flick through to have a laugh and put down again. If it were up to me, there'd be a AD (Angels Dictionary) definition after the regular definition in every dictionary.

Recommended!
A devilishly good book...So surprising really, as I always thought American’s didn’t do irony...Well, as a Brit I would say that, wouldn’t I? However, not being ironic they do satire rather well! Well, this chap Sol Luckman does. If you want a laugh, and some insight into human nature (even yourself, if you can bear to look in the mirror that the words often provide) you’ll come away after every read smiling at the craziness of us all, just making our way in the world as best we can. Let’s laugh at ourselves along the way, eh?
The Angel’s Dictionary is a sardonic antidote to the trite and asinine slogans and catchphrases – the basic language - of Big Brother’s thought-control system. On one level, it’s light and witty comic relief, and beyond the playful satire, it is scathingly accurate! If you’re in need of some conscious, fun, and thought-provoking wordplay then you might start with The Angel’s Dictionary. Warning reader may experience symptoms of higher consciousness, greater clarity, and general merriment.
Keep up the great work, Sol!
I've never had so many belly laughs in my entire life. It is absolutely witty, "spot-on" and I LOVE IT. Rather than rejecting/resenting dire situations/conditions, I find that the Angel Dictionary (Devilish as it may be) adds a quality of "lightness" in bringing about such laughter. I do sincerely feel we may each gain by experiencing more and more laughs in meeting the existing chaos WITHIN our space time. Keep them up, Sol !!!
