Prologue
Planet Earth is made of multiple layers, some collapsed into and folded over other layers that are older than any recordings of antiquity. The universe, shrouded in mystery, also has its multiple layers that are ever evolving and swirling around each other, creating boundaries that seem impassable.
There are beings that have the exceptional ability to weave in and out of the folds separating the mysterious from the commonplace. The boundary that is interwoven into such folds and that must be crossed is known as the Great Divide.

What an intriguing story of mystery and faith. The turn of events in the characters life flowed so smoothly. Many times I felt as though I could see the story literally unfolding right in front of me. I look forward to more of Amy's adventures and to see how she grows through her awakening and how she involves (or doesn't involve) Steven and her mother. Summary Amy Steadford's life is changed by some disturbing dreams and a few mysterious encounters. Before she can fulfill her role as a protector, she'll need to be taught the necessary skills.
What I struggled with ...
- The font - There are a lot of thoughts in here and the chosen font did not lend itself to easily distinguishing between thoughts and regular descriptions.
- Long sections of dialogue being used to explain things to the main character. It's inevitable that some explanation's going to happen in dialogue, but this seemed much.
What I liked ...
- I like that it's paranormal that avoids the trap of being a love-triangle, vampire, YA rehash. It's rather far from that actually. Amy Steadford's not a bright-eyed, twenty something. Instead, she's an almost middle aged business owner who happens to be powerfully gifted. Many of the side characters are those who enter her life to guide her on the journey to mastering her power.
- Favorite side character(s) = J.J. (most personality award) and Steven (very supportive, sweet)
- Favorite section (sad) - Amy's dream of the young missing girl.
What I'd wish for ...
- I think only one ch. is truly a training chapter. I'd like to have seen more of her training from various people.
Conclusion If you're looking for a paranormal story featuring dreams and an initially reluctant heroine, give this one a chance.
The cosmic conflict between good and evil is always intriguing. With well-defined characters and a realistic, suspenseful plot, the author keeps the reader engaged into Amy Steadford's journey to find what lies beyond the great divide. Very well written.
What a great book! I was able to read this book in a day and thought about Amy for hours. By chapter four, I was hooked. I am looking forward to reading the next book Hint! Hint! and I am looking forward to seeing Amy find herself as well as learn more about her gifts and talents.
